PGCE and QTS
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Successful completion of our School-centred Initial Teacher Training course will lead to a recommendation for ‘Qualified Teacher Status’ for Primary teaching (aged 3 to 11 years). This allows a trainee to start work as an ‘Early Career Teacher’
Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
A PGCE is an option which we offer in addition to QTS. This carries 60 Masters credits and is accredited by a Higher Education Institute.
The PGCE element of our course aims to develop the practical knowledge and theoretical understanding required to work with primary school children. This area is currently led by Oxford Brookes University and trainees attend seminars run by the university throughout the year. These take place at Chepping View Primary Academy SCITT. Three main assignments need to completed – ‘Introduction to Professional Learning’, ‘Key Themes in Teaching and Learning’ and ‘Supporting Evidence Informed Practice’.
